If you have the Dragonborn DLC, you should also consider downloading Vilja in Solstheim, which is an optional add-on that allows Vilja to be aware and have chatters about Solstheim.

If you have the Hearthfire DLC, you should consider downloading the Hearthfire Kids Moving Fix, which is a standalone mod that allows you to move your adopted kids to a new home location if your spouse is customly voiced and doesn't have the dialogue option (the equivalent is already implemented in TMPhoenix's Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions).

All other optional files are for custom appearances, various fixes, and guides.

Manual Install (Recommended)

1. Download the Vilja mod, and move the downloaded 7z archive to the desktop.
2. You will need 7-Zip or WinRar to extract the file.
   Extract it by right clicking, select "7-Zip" "Extract to 'EMCompViljaSkyrim\'."
   The newly created folder should contain one esp-file, one bsa-file, a readme and a folder called scripts. If you have not had Vilja installed on your computer previously, you don't need the folder called scripts. The only files you need are the esp and the bsa.
3. In your computer folder system, go to your Steam folder and inside it find the folder SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data.
4. Put the esp and the bsa in this Data folder.
5. Launch the game and in Data Files, check the checkbox for EMCompViljaSkyrim.esp is enabled in your mod list, and play the game.

1. Use the "DOWNLOAD WITH MANAGER" button to download the file into NMM, or you can add it to NMM manually. Latter maybe better if your system is 32-bit, because NMM is prone to error for large file size.
2. Install the mod via the client. If you have not had Vilja installed on your computer previously, you shouldn't get any prompts to overwrite.
3. Make sure EMCompViljaSkyrim.esp is activated in the mod manager client. Play the game.

Manual Upgrade (Recommended)
To upgrade Vilja, just replace everything with the updated version and continue to play (if you know for sure that you don't have previous versions of Vilja's loose scripts in Data, then you only need the bsa and esp). We have done our utmost to ensure that there shouldn't be any problem.

Nexus Mod Manager or Mod Organizer
Just install the new version of Vilja normally, select YES when prompt about upgrade, and YES TO ALL when prompt about overwrite.

If she behaves oddly after upgrading, don't panic. Cast the reset-spell on her, it should help. If it does not help, go somewhere else and summon her. If she is still acting strange, ask her to spar with you.

1. Get the items you want back from Vilja's inventories, and make sure that she isn't running errands for you, e.g. shopping, reading a book, performing music, crafting, etc. Save and exit game.
2. Deactivate Vilja from your mod list.
3. Load game and wait 52 ingame hours to allow a script to shutdown all her quests automatically. Save and exit game.
4. (Optional)Uninstall Vilja via mod manager or by removing all the following mod files from Skyrim\Data folder.
   1. EMCompViljaSkyrim.esp
   2. EMCompViljaSkyrim.bsa
   3. AAEMCompViljaCompquest.pex (inside Skyrim\Data\Scripts)
   4. AAEMExtraStorageScript.pex (inside Skyrim\Data\Scripts)
   5. AAEMSellingItemsScript.pex (inside Skyrim\Data\Scripts)
   6. AAEMUninstall.pex (inside Skyrim\Data\Scripts; this loose script file is introduced since ver 3.01)
   7. Viljascript.pex (inside Skyrim\Data\Scripts)
   8. ViljaWeddingNight3.bik (inside Skyrim\Data\Video)

1. Follow the uninstallation instructions above.
2. Install Vilja again (please make sure you have deactivated Vilja's add-ons, unique body patch, or alternate looks that requires a patch esp until you can access Vilja's inventory again).
3. Meet Vilja at The Bannered Mare and go through the very first part of her quest until you can access her inventory via dialogue.
4. Talk to Vilja, "Traveling together..." → "Off-topic - Configuration and Settings" → "We have already done (some of) your quests!" This will summon Beata to The Bannered Mare, who can help you fast forward Vilja's quests to get back to where you were before uninstallation.
5. Talk to Beata at The Bannered Mare, go through her options carefully, they should be self-explanatory. Note that you have to skip a bit back and forth in her dialog, for instance, you have to acknowledge that you have finished Vilja's quests before she gives you the option to state that you are romancing Vilja. Just continue to talk to her until you have got everything right, it does work!

1. Download the add-on, and move the downloaded 7z archive to the desktop.

2. Install the mod as standalone mod via the client (i.e. do NOT install them as upgrade to the Vilja's main mod, and the installation shouldn't overwrite any files).
3. Make sure the add-on esp is activated in the mod manager client. Play the game.

1. SkyHeels won't work well with her wardrobe system (autochange). Reports of stuttering behaviour when shifting outfits, reports of occasional nudity and wearing wrong items, report of strange looking lower legs.
2. Dragon Break. This mod prevents all Vanilla and Vilja's idle chatter. Please use "optional" esm to cure this problem.
3. Vilja may wander around Whiterun instead of inside The Bannered Mare if you are using Alternate Start - Live Another Life or Dudestia's Multiple Marriages.
4. My Home Is Your Home (regardless of which version you are using). You can run this mod alongside with Vilja, but DO NOT EVER use the dialog topics from My Home is Your Home on Vilja; it will break her AI. The original My Home is Your Home by Volek will start scripts as soon as you have selected the dialogue option "Let's talk about home..." Doing so without even assigning a home to Vilja can break her AI.

1. Deactivate Vilja's related addons and cosmetic patches if you have any.
2. Load your game, and let Vilja relax in a building that will respawn (preferably an inn).
3. Go inside a nearby building (for instance a nearby general store), so that you are not in an adjacent cell from Vilja (i.e. somewhere from which you need to go through 2 load doors to get to where Vilja is)
4. Open console and enter:GetGS iHoursToRespawnCell
5. Take note of the value returned by the console (this value is the number of hours before the cell is reset again by the game)
6. Enter into console:SetGS iHoursToRespawnCell 1 (This set the game to reset cell after 1 hour)
7. Wait 1 in-game hour (so that the non-adjacent cells will reset, this included the cell where Vilja is)
8. Open console and revert the setting:SetGS iHoursToRespawnCell [the value you have taken note before]
9. Re-activate Vilja's related addons and cosmetic patches

Should Vilja get involved in combat when a scene is started, this might prevent her from completing it.

A solution is to smack one of the people who are supposed to be participating in the scene.

If for some reason, the above method doesn't move Magda to you, you can also try entering these console commands:prid XX1F39BD (replace XX with first 2 digits of Vilja's FormID)RemoveAllItems playerThis would transfer all items from Magda's inventory to your inventory, take a careful look in your inventory, something will help you proceed this quest.

Just be patient with Vilja, she will eventually find the ingredients she need, and she will ask for your help for the more rare ones. To help Vilja, make sure to take her with you while traveling in the wilderness, she only collects ingredients if there's no enemies around and she is not horse riding.

1. Make sure to keep her disposition high, over 90 %. She won't talk about romance if she is mad at you!
2. She will only talk about romance in non-hostile areas; cities, wilderness where there are no dungeons.
3. She will only start the romance quest after 17 PM or Before 10 AM.
4. Listen to what she says. If she says "Wouldn't it be nice to talk a little, you and I?", make sure that you do talk to her! It is likely to be about the romance.
5. Before she'll talk about romance, she'll always ask you if you have a problem with her accent. After this, it will take at least 24 ingame hours before she asks you if you regret that you let her stay with you.
6. After you have told her that you don't regret that she stayed with you, it might take another few ingame days until she has made up her mind about her feelings for you. Don't worry, keep her disposition up, visit non-hostile areas and listen to what she says after 17 PM and before 10 AM and it should soon happen.

To get around this rare bug, you can simply tell Vilja to not get too excited about this and skip the proposal scene, thus avoiding the game from freezing. The romance and wedding quest will proceed normally.

Similar but more generic interactions will happen also with Faelyn, Iona, Ria, Kharjo, Areana, Rayya, Benor, Stenvar, Ahtar, Illia, Uthgerd, Adelaisa and Anneke Crag-Jumper, and with all modder-made companions that are using one of the following vanilla-voicetypes: Female Eventoned, Female Commander, Female Darkelf, Female YoungEager, Male Brute, Male Eventoned, Male Khajiit.

With some other popular followers, Vilja has simple interaction, i.e. Vilja will know that they are there and sometimes comment on them, but they will not respond and there will be no discussions between them. These followers are Mjoll, Erik the Slayer and Calder.

Therefore, we added an option in her dialog when she is leading away: "Let me take over for a brief while". This will allow you to lead her past the navmesh glitch - 10 steps is usually enough. Then you can tell her to continue to lead, and she will resume leading you to the place she was already heading for. (Actually, it may be enough that you just run ahead of her a little, without asking to take over. She will then run up to you and take over lead again, now hopefully in the right direction).

The hug-kill bug occurs when the game thinks an actor (you or Vilja) "owe" a death, and since the hug animation is indeed a killmove, the game takes the opportunity and kill the actor.

If Vilja dies:

1. Make Vilja essential (Talk to Vilja, "Traveling together..." → "Off topic - Configuration and Settings" → "I don't want to risk that you ever die (Set Vilja to essential)")
2. Kill her with the console by opening the console, click on Vilja (so that her FormID is selected), and enterKill
3. If Vilja remains kneeling indefinitely, open console again (Vilja's FormID should already be selected, if not, click on her), and enterdamageav health 0.1
4. Now you can make her non-essential (protected) again and hug her.

1. Toggle on immortal mode (console command: TIM)
2. Kill your character (console command: player.kill)
3. Toggle off immortal mode (console command: TIM) and hug her.

There are various built-in failsafe measures to avoid player dying when hugging. When all of them fail, the player is resurrected. In this case, your character was resurrected, and resurrection in Skyrim does cause you to lose your magic effects. Please reload the game and follow instructions from the entry right above.

Vilja's attack power and vulnerability are multipliers.
Attack power = how many times of base damage Vilja deals every hit. The higher value, the higher the damage she deals. In Skyrim, the base damage is based of the weapon and the user's related skills/perks/buffs. For Vilja, her output damage would be the product of attack power and her base damage. For example, with a hit of base damage of 10 points:

1. attack power of 0 (default 100%), Vilja will deal 10 points of damage
2. attack power of 1 (200%), Vilja will deal 20 points of damage
3. attack power of 2 (300%), Vilja will deal 30 points of damage
4. attack power of -10 (90%), Vilja will deal 9 points of damage
5. attack power of -50 (50%), Vilja will deal 5 points of damage

1. vulnerability of 0 (default 100%), Vilja will receive 10 points of damage
2. vulnerability of 1 (200%), Vilja will receive 20 points of damage
3. vulnerability of 2 (300%), Vilja will receive 30 points of damage
4. vulnerability of -10 (90%), Vilja will receive 9 points of damage
5. vulnerability of -50 (50%), Vilja will receive 5 points of damage

1. You are selecting items in succession too rapidly.
2. You took away items designated in wardrobes from Vilja's normal inventory
3. You emptied out Vilja's inventory and used the reset spell, which may have respawned her original equipment.
4. You have removed a mod that contains item(s) assigned to Vilja's outfits or wardrobes.
5. You have recently reinstalled Skyrim and continued with your previous savegames.

1. Vilja is supposed to wear clothes, and there are no clothes available in her inventory or current wardrobe.
2. Vilja is supposed to wear armor, and there are no armor available in her inventory or current wardrobe.
3. Formlist corruption
4. Vilja is affected by some other mods' auto-unequipping scripts
5. You have only just changed or created a wardrobe or outfit and the game may not recognize the changes yet. Try asking her to play music or travel to another location.

1. This may be due to lag caused by the clothing or armor you have given Vilja being graphically intensive, causing your computer to becoming overloaded when trying to render the change. Try giving Vilja something less-demanding to wear.
2. If the problem persists even when Vilja is told to wear something simple, then this may also be a case of formlist corruption. Please use "Fix for Corrupt Form Lists" (available here). Instructions are included within the download.

1. Tell Vilja to wear whatever she wants to turn off her wardrobes or outfits.
2. Take away everything from her inventory.
3. Open console, click on Vilja, and type:RemoveAllItems Player
4. Cast Vilja's reset spell on her, then give her equipment back to her.
5. Use "Fix for Corrupt Form Lists" (available here), and setup her wardrobes again.

1. Follow the brief tutorial from Simple Changes for Vilja in Skyrim by Lycanthrops
2. Use the existing Vilja patch that matches the body mod you are using, they usually address the neck seam quite well.
3. If the body texture mod came with face texture (most do), you can first abandon Vilja's custom face texture by using Non Custom Face in optional files, but Vilja will look different.
4. You can manually edit Vilja's custom face texture with the body texture you are using to blend them together in the neck area.
5. You can trying using UNP Texture Blender, and whismerhill's instructions.

What you will need:

• Wrye Base
• Creation Kit
• NifSkope
• Photoshop or Gimp (or other photo editors that can edit .dds texture files; you will need to search for .dds plug-ins for these programs)

1. You will need to esmify Vilja as a master using Wrye Bash (don't forget to re-espify Vilja later)
2. Use CK to make a esp patch with Vilja as a master
3. Export the facegen from this newly made esp patch. (no need to save the new esp, just export the facegen with Ctrl + F4)
4. Export the exported .nif again into .obj, so that you can customize the meshes and morphs in programs that edit obj (for instance blender, 3ds max)
5. Import them back as .nif with NifSkope and adjust the normals, then change the "has normal" flag to NO
6. Adjust the texture maps/files as well using photoshop or gimp, and assign them to .nif in Nifskope.
